How can I remove strong cooking order from an old wood cabinet?

Can anyone give me some advice on this -

I bought an older house ( 1940 ) and it has all wooden kitchen cabinets. The people who owned the house had put their stove top directly below a low hanging cabinet with NO hood or vent above it! All of the steam / smoke from cooking went straight up and absorbed into the cabinet. It smells like some sort of rancid onion when I open the doors.

Can anyone recommend a way to remove the odor from the cabinet?

If it's wood, I would buy a bottle of Murphy's Oil Soap, which is especially made for cleaning wood. It will clean, yet moisturize the wood (and your hands) without damaging it. It might take several washings to fully get it out. You might try setting a bowl of white vinegar inside the cabinet to see if that will absorb some of the smell. (bowls of vinegar are supposed absorb odor.)

Any other cleaner, bleach, whatever, will damage the wood's finish--unless you plan on refinishing all those old cabinets anyway. How can I remove strong cooking order from an old wood cabinet?

air freshener scrub it with clorox
heya there... I would try some bi-carb soda it's renowned for absorbing odors... if not i would try something like the fridge vanilla hanger you can buy them for the supermarket cleaning isle??? if that doesn't work I would spray it with a domestic (bleach) and pinoclean disinfectant let it dry (see how that goes) hope this helps ...
Surely you mean 'odour' ?
Pine cleaner, baking soda, or peppermint soap.
Try VODKA. Believe it or not...It freshens and removes the toughest odors on many things including wood...put it in a spray bottle.Spray undiluted on wooden cabinets and let dry. Do this up 3 times or until u get the desired effect. Seriously...this works.
