That's a very cruel thing to do to a pig, how would you feel if someone did that to you?
http://www.hawaiitravelnewsletter.com/cu

A bunch of recipes
The hawaiians do it best.

Dig a pit deep enough for the pig.

Put rocks in the pit and charcoal, let it burn at least an hour

put bannana leaves for next layer

pig wrapped in bannana leaves goes in

use some of the hot rocks on top and bury the whole thing

in at least six hours dig it up

try a rump roast first to experiment

- For expert advice go to Hawaiian.gov tourist website or google luau-pig roasting for exact process

- If you try to roast it over an open fire like in the king arthur movies it will suck.
check for hawaiian sites. there is ore to the hole in the ground. they use special leaves, but i am sure it could be fun. good luck. I have seen people **** them on stakes over a fire too.

Khichdi is a very simple dish of lentil and rice. It's very common to celebrate Makar Sankranti and Pongal by cooking Khichdi. I am curious to know, how this tradition started. What is the reason for cooking khichdi on Makar sankranti and Pongal?

Khichri (also khichdi, khichdee, khichadi, khichuri, khichari and many other variants) (Hindi: ?????? khica?ī, Urdu: ????? khic?ī, Bengali: ?????? khichuri) is an Indian food preparation made from rice and lentils (dal). Khichri is commonly considered to be a comfort food, and was the inspiration for the Anglo-Indian dish of Kedgeree.

    [edit] History

Khichri is described in the writings of Afanasiy Nikitin, a Russian adventurer who travelled to the Indian subcontinent in the 15th century. Khichri was very popular with the Mughals, especially Jahangir. Ain-i-Akbari, a 16th century document, written by Mughal Emperor, Akbar’s vizier, Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak, mentions the recipe for Khichri, which gives seven variations [1].

    [edit] Regional variations

Khichri is commonly served with another Indian dish called kadhi. Other common accompaniments are papads, beguni (deep fried eggplants in a besan batter), ghee (clarified butter), achar (oil based pickle), and yoghurt.

Khichri is a very popular dish across Pakistan, northern India, and Bangladesh. The dish is widely prepared in many Indian states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Bengal (where it is called Bengali: ?????? khichuri). Vegetables such as cauliflower, potato, and green peas are commonly added. A popular variant in coastal Maharashtra is made with prawns.

In Bengali tradition it is customary to cook khichuri (Bengali: ??????) on rainy days. It is also traditional in Bengal to cook khichuri as a lunch at the Saraswati Puja during the month of February - the invocation of the goddess of learning - and for other popular pujas such as Durga Puja.

While khichuri is cooked as a rather rich gourmet delicacy in Bengal, it is cooked very differently in northern and western India, where it is considered a very plain bland dish usually served to people who are ill. Khichri is also the first solid that babies are introduced to. Rice and lentils are simmered till mushy, seasoned with turmeric and salt and fed to infants to introduce them to ';adult'; food. Khichri is also popular in Pakistan. It is especially cooked for children and people with stomach problems as it is easily digestible compared to other Pakistani dishes which usually have meat and are also spicy. Although it has a similar name, khichra is actually a variation of haleem and is not to be confused with Khichri.

Khichri is also a favourite campfire food owing to the convenience of being able to cook the dish in a single simmering pot.

Khichri when well cooked with little oil is considered as a light and nutritious dish and is especially popular amongst many who follow an ayurvedic diet practices or nature cure. What is the reason for cooking khichdi on Makar sankranti and Pongal?

Me and my friend are cooking italian sausages on the barbeque but we don't know if they're fully cooked. They're orangeish inside. How do we know when they're done? How to tell when Italian sausages are finished cooking?
The best way is to put them into boiling water for about 15 min. then put on to the barbecue poking a few holes in each one with a folk and keep turning them on a low flame for about 10 to 15 min. You can cut a piece off and then test it to make sure it's done. How to tell when Italian sausages are finished cooking?
when the juices run clear..but if you want to be exact get a meat thermometer
They take a long time if you did not poach or boil in beer first.

When the juices run clear. When they cook they will seal and cook from the inside, do not poke them and break the skin, they will not be juicy as they could. be..
you take a knife or something pointy or sharp and you cut it open in the middle and see if you can't spot any raw meat or juice that comes out without you pressuring the sausages, that's how I usually tell

Japanese rice is short grain rice and gets sticky when it is cooked. Long grain rice isn't proper for sushi because it is drier and doesn't stick together.

    Ingredients:

    * 3 cups Japanese rice

    * 3 1/4 cups water

    * 1/3 cup rice vinegar

    * 3 Tbsp sugar

    * 1 tsp salt

    Preparation:

After washing and soaking Japanese rice, cook and let it steam. See How to Cook Japanese Rice.

Prepare sushi vinegar (sushi-zu) by mixing rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a sauce pan. Put the pan on low heat and heat until the sugar dissolves. Cool the vinegar mixture.

Spread the hot steamed rice into a large plate or a large bowl. Please use a non-metallic bowl to prevent any interaction with rice vinegar. It's best to use a wooden bowl called sushi-oke. Sprinkle the vinegar mixture over the rice and fold the rice by shamoji (rice spatula) quickly. Be careful not to smash the rice.

To cool and remove the moisture of the rice well, use a fan as you mix sushi rice. This will give sushi rice a shiny look. It's best to use sushi rice right away.

    Makes 4-6 servings.

What are the plain basics for cooking a brisket?

I have a 9.15 pound brisket I need to cook. I have a foil pan, and three bottles of marinade. I even have an oven.. : )

    - I just don't have a clue how to cook it and the thing is, I told my husband I knew how... so tommorow or the next day, he's anticipating a brisket dinner.

Can someone please give the the basics for cooking this? Like oven time and temp? Covering it with foil or not? I'd rather slow cook it if that's an option - I hear you get more flavor that way.

Thanks in advance! What are the plain basics for cooking a brisket?
good spice rub goes on the night before cooking

cook it at low temp for a long time. 275 for 8 hours or so.

Sauce goes on AFTER . No matter what anyone else says, it goes on AFTER

That is the basics. Everything else is preference. What are the plain basics for cooking a brisket?
    ********BBQ BRISKET

1 (4-6 lb.) beef brisket (fresh)

    Celery salt

    Garlic salt

    Onion salt

    Chili powder

    1bottle Liquid Smoke

    1 bottle BBQ sauce (optional)

Put brisket in 13';x9'; baking pan (put in fat side up). Heavily season with above seasonings to cover top of meat. Pour Liquid Smoke around meat. Tightly cover with foil and bake at 275 degrees for 4 hours. Remove from oven and pour off drippings (there will be plenty). Pour BBQ sauce over top of meat and cover; return to oven for 1 hour more. Remove and slice thinly across meat. Super.
i suggest you slow book it as i find brisket a touch cut. and once you slow break down the meat, it will be oh so tender so go ahead, slow cook it, and plus, you'll get more flavor!
Brisket is a less-tender cut of beef.

    The cooking philosophy for these cuts is ';low and slow';

Low temperatures and slow (a lot of time).

You can wet cook it in a liquid... or dry cook it in the oven.

What I like to do with brisket is to bake it low and slow...

This is adapted from smoking a brisket. Typically, bbq joints smoke their brisket anywhere from 200 to 250F.

    The night before...

apply a very light coating of mustard and sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic salt (or use your favorite seasoned salt)...

    The day of...

Apply a coating of brown sugar to all sides... (mix 1/2 cup brown sugar and a little mustard (1 Tablespoon))

Bake at 200F for 8 hours

If you like, the last hour add a bottle of bbq sauce and let it cook.

It's surprisingly simple. It's almost a ';set it and forget it'; meal.

No need to use an aluminum foil tent since you're slow cooking below boiling so juices don't readily evaporate.
Do you have a slow cooker?

If you do the way that I make mine is I put the brisket into the slow cooker add seasonings and 1 cup of water turn on low and let it go all day 9-10 hours or on high 4-5 hours.

Serve with potaotes and a salad and you are good to go.
Low %26amp; slow (275 degrees for 8-10 hours) for a piece that large. I cover mine for most of the cooking %26amp; uncover the last 30 minutes or so.

    Bubbie's (Grandma) Brisket

    3 lb brisket

salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder (at least 1-2 tsp each)

    1 packet onion soup mix

    2 1/2 c. water*

Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Season meat with seasonings, allow to marinate 30 minutes. Meanwhile, dissolve soup mix in water, add more seasonings (except salt), pour into roasting pan. Add meat, cover. Roast 3 hours then uncover %26amp; roast 30 minutes more. Meat should be very tender when you pierce it with a fork.

Remove meat to a cutting board %26amp; let sit 15 minutes then cut into thin slices. Strain liquid %26amp; thicken if desired.

*If you do not have at least 1/2 inch of liquid in the bottom of the pan, mix another pack of soup mix %26amp; water %26amp; add to pan until you have 1/2 inch of liquid. This is necessary to ensure the meat does not dry out.
here is what I do and it is darn good

You say you have the marinade already, put it in a pan or dish and cover it with the marinade for 24 hours in the fridge. add water if it doesn't cover it completely

I use ';Claude's'; Marinade and rub they have several flavors to choose from.

after this drain the marinade off, and apply the rub (Claude's)

and wrap it with foil, good and tight. Cook at 275-300 for 2.5-3 hours

Unwrap and continue cooking in pan for additional 1.5-2 hours.

I cook mine on a smoker, and monitor it the whole time to keep the heat consistent. Also to make sure it's not overcooking and drying out. If this starts to happen I recover it

Since your doing it in an oven I would recommend you leave it covered the whole time. The reason, I uncover mine is to let the smoke get to it.

I cooked 6 at one time for a wedding a couple years ago, and they turned out fantastic, I have been wanting to cook another for a while now.

Thanks for inspiring me I think I will now!

-Do i need to turn the turkey half way through cooking or anything like that?

A 12lb turkey should take approximately 3 hours to cook.

I would cover in aluminium foil and ensure that the turkey has a good coating of butter rubbed into the skin to ensure the turkey does not dry out, and baste (pour the melted butter and juices) over the turkey during the cook time.

No you do not need to turn the turkey.

if you haven't started yet your to late
Make sure that it is thoroughly thawed!! 6-7 hours in room temp water. Get the giblets out. Rinse out inside.

Coat with butter or oil (I use olive) and spices (oregano and salt for me).

    Heat oven to 325 F.

I use the broiler pan. I wrap the turkey in foil, leave a small opening, and put juice (I used Chai tea) in and outside. Place in oven. More juice added first and second hour.

    Do three hours.

Turn off oven, open door, and let cool 45 min.

    Carve and serve.

I did it yesterday, a 12 pounder, ate some last night,

    very tender!

    Good luck!

Differences in cooking with whole grain flour?

I'd like to start cooking with whole grain flour. How differently does it cook than regular flour? Any suggestions on how to adapt recipes? Thanks!Differences in cooking with whole grain flour?
Whole wheat is more dry because it absorbs the liquids. So you can either substitute some of the flour for whole wheat flour or just use only whole wheat flour but use about a 1/4 less flour for every cup of flour the recipe calls for. (i.e. only use 3/4 if asks for 1 cup).

Just experiment with it. that's what i do and sometime you end up with something completely new and good on accident.Differences in cooking with whole grain flour?
A lot of recipes can't handle substituting all the flour with whole wheat/grain flour. An easy way to make all your current recipes more healthy would be to substitute 1/4 of the flour in the recipe with the whole wheat/grain flour. Also, whole wheat/grain flour absorbs more liquid which could make your recipe dry. Make sure to add a little more liquid to the recipe i.e. apple sauce, butter, oil. In a typical recipe for 1 loaf of bread (when substituting with some whole wheat/grain flour) you would add about 1/4cup more liquid.
Whole wheat flour has far less gluten that whie flour. So if you're making bread, you really DO need to use about 1/3 - 1/2 white or bread flour.

It can aso make baked products have a tougher bite/mouthfeel. Again, this can be tempered by using part white flour to get the tenderness you want but the health benefits you desire.
I use whole wheat flour because it doesn't have the sugar like regular flour does. I just use it in place of regular flour.

Can I cook a tombstone pizza in the oven without a baking pan or cooking stone?

Yeah, I'm in college and forgot to bring down a baking pan and my cooking stone, so would it be okay to just put it on the rack? And if so, would I have to like pam up the rack so the pizza won't stick to it, plus how do I get it off the rack anyways? Can I cook a tombstone pizza in the oven without a baking pan or cooking stone?
You don't need foil or for goodness sake Wax paper.

Just slide it onto the rack and then pull it out onto a cutting board. Can I cook a tombstone pizza in the oven without a baking pan or cooking stone?
put a sheet of foil under it and lube with butter or oil spray(pam) shiny side down, keep an eye on it so it dont stick, you`ll do fine
Take a piece of like wax paper or foil and lay it on the rack before heating the oven...spray the paper with pam spray, then place pizza on that. Take a spatula to lift pizza off of paper once done.
Thats the way my husband likes it. I never make our frozen pizzas on a pan. My husband like it right on the grate. I have a old large cookie sheet that I put on the shelf underneath to catch anything that falls but if you don't have one just be sure to wipe out the bottom of the oven after its cooled.

I have one of those half moon pizza cutters and I just press down on a side and pull it out. I never have problems with it sticking.
I thought you were supposed to put it directly on the rack anyway. So yes, go right ahead, I've done it for years.

Muffin recipes translate to cakes pretty well. Just make sure that when you spread the dough into the pan that you push it up high up the sides and low in the middle as muffins tend to rise higher in the middle than cakes do. Also, make sure you ';spank'; the bottom of the cake pan well to get the air bubbles out. Muffins tend to have a coarser, denser texture than cake as you don't beat the batter as much. How do I change the cooking time for a muffin recipe to make a cake?

I have a charcoal grill, and the cooking grate needs to be cleaned. What's the best way to clean it?How do you clean the cooking grate on a grill?
after you are done cooking your food, allow the grate to burn the foods on (yes u heard me right) by putting the lid back on the grill and forgetting about it...

then, before you light it the next time, brush your grate with a wire brush from the bbq section of wal mart... i like the one with a long wooden handle and a blade on the reverse side to get any drips...

after it is scraped clean, it is ready to use... do not bother with water because it is used at temps exceeding 500* F and you have no worries of bacteria surviving THAT!

    enjoy you ';new'; bbq!

susanHow do you clean the cooking grate on a grill?
use pipe cleaners and use a grease removal product
Personally, I cleanse with fire! I then brush off the charred remains with a brass grill brush. This has worked much better that trying to use chemicals or spending much time trying to scour it clean.
get a brush thats made out of wire and scrub it
Oven cleaner! Spray it on, let it soak in.....grime comes right off.

    Have fun!

Also, Betty Crocker recently reprinted a cookbook for children that came out in the 1960's. I have an original copy from my childhood and it has some great, easy recipies that you can do together.

How can I remove strong cooking order from an old wood cabinet?

Can anyone give me some advice on this -

I bought an older house ( 1940 ) and it has all wooden kitchen cabinets. The people who owned the house had put their stove top directly below a low hanging cabinet with NO hood or vent above it! All of the steam / smoke from cooking went straight up and absorbed into the cabinet. It smells like some sort of rancid onion when I open the doors.

Can anyone recommend a way to remove the odor from the cabinet?

If it's wood, I would buy a bottle of Murphy's Oil Soap, which is especially made for cleaning wood. It will clean, yet moisturize the wood (and your hands) without damaging it. It might take several washings to fully get it out. You might try setting a bowl of white vinegar inside the cabinet to see if that will absorb some of the smell. (bowls of vinegar are supposed absorb odor.)

Any other cleaner, bleach, whatever, will damage the wood's finish--unless you plan on refinishing all those old cabinets anyway. How can I remove strong cooking order from an old wood cabinet?
    giggidy giggidy giggidy giggidy GOO
air freshener scrub it with clorox
heya there... I would try some bi-carb soda it's renowned for absorbing odors... if not i would try something like the fridge vanilla hanger you can buy them for the supermarket cleaning isle??? if that doesn't work I would spray it with a domestic (bleach) and pinoclean disinfectant let it dry (see how that goes) hope this helps ...
    Surely you mean 'odour' ?
Pine cleaner, baking soda, or peppermint soap.
Try VODKA. Believe it or not...It freshens and removes the toughest odors on many things including wood...put it in a spray bottle.Spray undiluted on wooden cabinets and let dry. Do this up 3 times or until u get the desired effect. Seriously...this works.

How can I remove cooking spray from a wall without discolouring the paint?

An intoxicated friend decided it would be funny to graffiti tag our walls with cooking oil spray about a month before we moved out of our apartment and now we can't get it out and are risking a $600 fine for it. Unfortunately, we don't have the option to repaint the walls. So far we have tried Mr. Clean, undiluted Mr. Clean, Goo Gone, and Degreaser and nothing has even made a dent in his graffiti work. Does anyone know what might get it off without discolouring the paint? How can I remove cooking spray from a wall without discolouring the paint?
try putting real lemon juice (the one in the green bottle) in a spray bottle the acid from lemon will cut through the grease/oil from the cooking spray but it is not harsh enough to take paint off. If that doesn't get it all try some baking soda on wet sponge rub gently. It should work. How can I remove cooking spray from a wall without discolouring the paint?
Sadly, it soaks deep down into the paint and wall. Just take a quarter size piece to Lowes and ask them to match it and let you know what type it is (semi, flat, gloss, satin). You will have to prime the area first though with some Zinnser primer so it doesn't just soak back through the new paint. I did this in my last apartment for some greasy kids handprints and food stains. I got my deposit back.
    Try undiluted white vinegar
The paint is already discolored. That's a pretty hefty fine, but it will take quite an effort to strip the oil and repaint, so it's probably appropriate. Live %26amp; learn.
try WD40 on a spot it may just do the trick
For cleaning walls and other painted surfaces, mix up 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1 cup ammonia, and 1/4 cup baking soda in 1 gallon (3.7 liters) water and pour some into a spray bottle. Spritz it on spots and stains whenever needed and wipe off with a clean towel.

    Good Luck !
    409 or comet.
try the brand greased lightning as i had the same problem and this worked so good and didnt discolor any of the walls or anything else..
Okay, here goes!! The only thing I have EVER been able to get to clean off grease and junk off my walls is the Magic Eraser. It is a white rectangular sponge and let me tell you, this is a heaven sent tool for cleaning!!! You will need to just buy one to start with and see if it works first. And this will not discolor your paint on the walls. You just wet it down lightly with warm water and start wiping the walls down. You'll be amazed! Good Luck!
Try a solution of water and dawn dish soap , should work

  • What is the best way to get my fishing and cooking up together on runescape?

I want to get my cooking and fishing up. My fishing level now is 64 and my cooking is 59 if i keep cage fishing lobsters (and just lobsters) how long would it take to get to 99 cooking and fishing? just so i have a basic idea. If that is not fast enough for my level, what would be?What is the best way to get my fishing and cooking up together on runescape?
If you are a member, you could do salmon/trout fishing in Shilo Village. If you are not a member, you could do the same thing in Barbarian Village. In Shilo, it will take you about 3-4 months for 99 fishing and then about a month for 99 cooking. At the end, you could sell all of the cooked fish for about 2-5m profit. What is the best way to get my fishing and cooking up together on runescape?
Do lobs, for fishing and cooking. When you're able to fish %26amp; cook monks. Do that. But start cooking monks at 86, (with gaunts.) because you will burn. If you don't have gaunts, start cooking them at 88! Dont cook them at 62. Could take anywhere from 2 months to 4 months.

Gaunts, are Cooking Gauntlets, you get from Family Crest quest.

But also first I would get your cooking the same level as your fishing, or atleast close by cooking lobs.
What I did was I did Trout and Salmon and Pike until level 65 both, and I cooked them, then sold them, then I went to the Fishing Guild and did Lobsters there, until level 75, then I did sharks until level 80, then do Monkfish and Sharks combine to get them up, maybe even Manta Rays.
fish salmon then cook it,,, and cook the trout you get too if u want!
The best way is to catch sharks, you'd have to be a member, become one for free at members4free.info

How to tell when Italian sausages are finished cooking?

When they cook they will seal and cook from the inside, do not poke them and break the skin, they will not be juicy as they could. be..
you take a knife or something pointy or sharp and you cut it open in the middle and see if you can't spot any raw meat or juice that comes out without you pressuring the sausages, that's how I usually tell

    hope that helps : ]

Japanese rice is short grain rice and gets sticky when it is cooked. Long grain rice isn't proper for sushi because it is drier and doesn't stick together.

    Ingredients:

    * 3 cups Japanese rice

    * 3 1/4 cups water

    * 1/3 cup rice vinegar

    * 3 Tbsp sugar

    * 1 tsp salt

  • Can I make spaghetti in my crockpot without cooking the noodles first?

I was going to just make the sauce then put it in my crockpot and add the raw noodles and let it finish cooking. Will this work and does anyone know how long it will take for the noodles to cook in the sauce? I won't be home until tonight and don't want it to burn or overcook. Can I make spaghetti in my crockpot without cooking the noodles first?
I wouldn't recommend it. The sauce is a great idea, but adding the pasta would make a gummy, unappetizing mess. Try this for making pasta in a hurry, just add very hot tap water to the pan to decrease your time bringing the water to a boil, add the salt and use angel hair pasta, which is done in 5-7 minutes rather than 9-11 for regular spaghetti. Can I make spaghetti in my crockpot without cooking the noodles first?
yes - I have done that before - just make sure that it is on low
    yes u can
You'll probably end up with a crockpot full of mush.
I doubt it. Crockpots are meant to cook slowly and at low heat. If you attempted to cook noodles this way they would waterlog and taste terrible.

I mean... I suppose some people might like the taste of the result, but it won't be traditional spagetti.
Put the noodles in when you get home, they should only take about 10 minutes to cook. If you put them in with everything else at the beginning of the day, they will be mush by the time you get home.
it will work, add extra water to the sauce as the noodles will absorb alot of moisture. cook on low, and perhaps the noodles will not be overcooked.
I think you should cook the noodles first. But i still dont know if its going to work because. I have never tired it before.
you need to have lots of gravy to cook the noodle for it to soften. if your gravy dries up(too little) you might have burnt noodles. even if you have enough gravy, it probably won't taste the same, as it would be soggy(absorbed all the gravy)
yes it does work but if you put the noddles in to early it makes your spaghetti soggy and taste like starch so what i do is cook my noddles drain and rise with warm water add to sauce turn on low and go

    The cooking philosophy for these cuts is ';low and slow';

What are the steps to cooking a 12 pound turkey?

-How long do i cok it, and at what degrees?

-Do i need to put a lid over it?

-Do i need to put water in the bottom of the pan, and how much?

-Do i need to turn the turkey half way through cooking or anything like that?

thanks! What are the steps to cooking a 12 pound turkey?

  • How do I change the cooking time for a muffin recipe to make a cake?

I have a gorgeous ginger muffin recipe which I know my Granny will love, but she wants a proper birthday cake!

I guess I know the basic principle of lower the temperature and lengthen the cooking time, but I wondered if anyone had any tips as I do not have too much time to do do-overs.How do I change the cooking time for a muffin recipe to make a cake?
Muffin recipes translate to cakes pretty well. Just make sure that when you spread the dough into the pan that you push it up high up the sides and low in the middle as muffins tend to rise higher in the middle than cakes do. Also, make sure you ';spank'; the bottom of the cake pan well to get the air bubbles out. Muffins tend to have a coarser, denser texture than cake as you don't beat the batter as much. How do I change the cooking time for a muffin recipe to make a cake?
easy just keep ypur eye on it you will need to double the recipe

As a vegetarian, how do I stomach cooking meat for my husband?

I am strongly leaning towards becoming a full-time vegetarian, eating only vegetables and natural foods (no cheese or eggs and no soy/tofu or ';meat substitute'; products either). My husband is a meat eater. How do I cook for both of us? Sometimes cooking meat absolutely turns my stomach, but he has to have it with each meal or he doesn't get full.As a vegetarian, how do I stomach cooking meat for my husband?
i'm a vegetarian and my husband is a midwestern meat-and-potatoes kind of guy......i do not cook meat for him.

i cook vegetarian food only, and if he wants meat he can cook it on the side and add it to his meal, or he can grill out if it's nice outside.

some might think that i forced him into this, but we made the decision together and he is perfectly fine with cooking his own meat dishes. i think it's only fair that if i have to cook every night that he can cook his own chicken drumstick.

marriage is all about compromise......but that doesn't mean compromising your values. talk it over with him and see if he's willing to cook his own meat if you do the rest of the work.....you might be surprised! many users of this forum are married to or are dating meat eaters, and many use the same method of compromise that my husband and i do.

like another user suggested, ask him to try a few meat substitutes. my husband loves the morningstar farms brand products.

EDIT: couple of things.....we tried quorn products for the first time last night, and my husband LOVED it.....he ate it so fast that he was done with his food before i even got through half. so i would highly suggest trying quorn's faux chicken =)

also, to all of you who are saying that she should cook it anyway and that ';that's a sacrifice you have to make to save your marriage';......i ask you this: if your spouse were jewish and obeyed kosher law, would you ask them to cook you pork? of course not, because that would be asking them to go against their morals and beliefs. it's the same for vegetarians....asking us to cook meat is asking us to do something that we have very deep convictions about. As a vegetarian, how do I stomach cooking meat for my husband?
I swapped in meat substitutes when making soups, stews, pastas, etc. When my girlfriend found out that it wasn't real meat and that she was stuffed, she also found that she didn't mind it so much and started to eat meat substitutes as well. I think that you have to show them that a vegetarian or vegan meal can be just as filling. He should also show some respect that you don't want to make meat for dinner and since you are not eating it, you should not have to cook it.
Well since this is 2008 you should be requierd to cook for your husband and expecially because your a vegetarian you shouldn't have to cook him meat and he should understand that.
You don't do it. If he needs it to ';feel full';, he can get it himself. You shouldn't have to make yourself sick because he thinks he needs meat at every meal. That's a one way ticket to heart disease and cancer, by the way. Congrats on your choice! :)
This sounds like something you need to discuss with him. If you really can't stand to cook meat then you shouldn't have to. Maybe you can get most of the food ready and have him cook the meat (since he's the one that wants it). Maybe he can learn to like meat substitutes. Maybe you can cook the dishes that don't turn your stomach. Maybe a combo of all three suggestions. :)
Well, how much do you love him? Enough not to force your ideology on him?

There are a lot of things that turn my stomach but I deal with them because people I actually care about engage in those activities or eat those foods or have those socio-political views. I'm also quite fond of someone whose astrotheological literary device quite literally makes me ill just thinking about it.

I just deal with it. My love for those around me far outweighs any squemishness I may feel about their issues. Which are really mine or they wouldn't be upsetting me and not them, right?

    ~Syl
he doesn't care about his health?

how does eating meat make him get full? that is bloated...

print off all the lists of the recalled meat and meat products...

increase his life insurance since eating meat he will go before you do...

it is a health and nutrition issue, there is no nutritional value in dead animal flesh....

being vegetarian costs less, should easily cut you grocery bill in half or more when the meat is gone.

the soy and tofu products are very healthy and full of protein which is needed for good health.

and if he wants meat he does know how to use the fry pan or the BBQ...
cook something and let him make the meat to add to eat or he can pick something up after work
I am a vegitarian and have been married 12 years to a meat-eater. I always cook meat for him. I am a stay at home mom and he works 60 hours a week to support his family. I think it is my duty to cook whatever he wants whether I want to or not. After 12 years I don't mind it that much.
sorry but you do not have to.c麓m on it is food.and you should not feel like throwing up in your own kitchen.have everything ready for him.a cold drink, salads, soup, pasta dessert.and learn how to start the grill.or have the sauce for the meat-just the sauce,or ingredients ready.that is say, chopped onion tomato etc if he wants a stew ready for him to throw in the meat.the point is that when he comes home from work he does not feel neglected or that you do not care for his eating needs.he arrives home hungry and he can have his cold drink-soda,beer what ever.he can start the meat be it in a stew of throw it on the grill while he enjoys soup and salad..
My wife (33 years) stopped eating red meats 20 odd years ago, she makes a meal and if I want meat then I cook it and wash the pans that cooked the meat, although now and again and always at Christmas she cooks the full (meat and all) meal and I always do the washing up. This is sharing and caring for your partner and understanding their feelings. There are many meals that he can eat from the supermarket take away, delicatessen and hot meat section. I was raised to work in the family ';butcher shop'; often spending time with drivers collecting livestock from farms and markets for their final trip to the slaughterhouse - meat was our staple diet and I thought a meal was a slab of meat with some veggies on the side and now eat a lot of Asian, Italian and other types of food rather than the traditional roast and some veg dishes.

We cook meals that meat is an addition to the meal not the other way round and are healthier and happier for it.
Since you married and had no problem with it till now - him possibly not being accepting of it is a possibility. Thus the approach that you take with him is important.

My suggestion is that you sit down and talk to him about it. Don't argue - discuss. I would think that he knows that you have been leaning towards becoming a full time vegetarian - you live in the same home. So it shouldn't be a shock to him. See if you can find common ground to work from.

Your choice shouldn't become a problem in your marriage. There are many things that the both of you can do. Just have to talk it thru and work it out.
he can cook his own food right? he's a grown man! you do not HAVE to cook him meat or anything else your strongly against. if he wants it, he can cook it.

try to find foods you both like. for me the meat subsitutes really really help. he likes them because they taste good and they are healthier. i like them for the same reasons but also because there is no animal death involved :) so using this i can make us a lot of the same foods. when i make meals with beans and tofu and such he just doesnt' get as filled up. so he needs twice as much of it lol i still do for lunches and such but we rely on the meat subs a lot. what do you plan on using for protein without soy, tofu, meat subs, eggs, cheese, etc? why don't you take it in steps? go vegetarian and try to find a way to make that work for both of you... than you can further cut out other products...
make him a small meat loaf for 2 or 3 days and cook the symple meats such as hamburgers, or steak for 3 persons and freeze the rest for another day. make sure to use freezer paper and freezer bags to keep them tasty? I guess? anyway where thay will be eatable later and not taste freezer burn. As you can see I do not eat the meat eather.

if you make your burgers and freeze them you can use them the same way. tofu does not freeze well as burger but you can use gluten or bulgar or soy grumbles and freeze them for use later as burger for sloppy joes. Tofu can be cut up and diced or frozen solid but the texture will change then you can thaw it and use it in entrees with with the texture can be a complement but most recipes do not do well with this kind of texture you will need to pick and choose.

every man and woman has the right to choose to eat the way they do. if you married him eating meat and became a vegetarian you will remember what the idea was like when you qiute eating meat. if you have always been a vegan then why would you not decide to know if he eat meat before marrying him?

he has the right to eat meat and if you are the cook and married a meat eater, then now you have to learn to accept that. Give him the rights you have and share the responsible for choosing to find yourself here.
I'll admit that I'm not married. BUT when I first turned vegetarian, I was living with my boyfriend. He still ate meat. We both respected one another's decision to eat what we wanted. He never asked me to fix his meat and I didn't ask him to fix my food.

He knew that it would be against my principles, so he would cook his own food.

I know my situation was a lucky one, but if you don't have the stomach to cook meat, then you shouldn't. I know you love your husband and all, but he's a grown man. He can fix what he wants to eat.
Perhaps that is one of the sacrifices that you have to make to stay married.
He does not ';have to have it';. Do what many couples do..make a vegetarian meal and he can cook his own meat to add to his meal.
    make him cook it himself!
Be honest with him. Explain to him just how disgusting you find meat to be. Let him know that if you cook, you will use meat substitutes. If he wants real meat, he either needs to cook it himself or purchase pre-cooked meat.
Or ...... from a different point of view.

Since you preparing the meals is sort of accepted household routine.

And since YOU are the one wanting to change your diet.

You could just suck it up and cook the meat.

Seriously, don't you think you're being pretty selfish?

Eat whatever you want. But when your lifestyle change forces the other around you to have to adapt, that is just selfish.
just do it...thats the best way to show him that your love for him knows no boundaries and hurdles...hes your hubby, not your slave!

For those who are new to cooking. What are your biggest concerns when it comes to cooking?

Are you worried you won't have the ingredients or that the dish may not turn out as intended? Do you feel like you just don't know how to cook or do you avoid cooking because of the time it takes to prepare a meal? Or is it an image thing...Ladies are you worried about taking on the Betty Crocker or June Cleaver image sometimes associated with cooking? I would love to know the concerns of the new cook. Thanks! For those who are new to cooking. What are your biggest concerns when it comes to cooking?
My biggest fear always was and still is that I won't cook something long enough, especially meat that can make you sick if undercooked!

My husband and I have been married almost a year, so I guess I am still technically a new cook. I'm not really worried with a ';Susie Homemaker'; sort of image; that's an interesting concept. I'd be more concerned about being known as the woman who can't cook, personally. For those who are new to cooking. What are your biggest concerns when it comes to cooking?
    For me it's starting a fire =/
I always end up screwing up anything i bake. I worry it wont turn out right... because it never does!
Why would you assume that only women are worried about an image in the kitchen? Many men are great cooks and are never compared with Betty Crocker, June Cleaver or Martha Stewart.
I have a problem remembering that I'm cooking!

I burn everything and have accidentally started 3 fires.. lol
I really like cooking but I mostly stick to the basic things I know how to cook. If I cook it's usually for myself and some friends and for me the most embarrassing thing would be if we had to order take out bc the meal was so bad...

Yeah that's my concern. I like trying new things but am always nervous its going to turn out tasting disgusting, and that my friends will judge me like the Top Chef judges.

How do you deal with a partner who constantly criticises your cooking?

My partner is constantly criticising my cooking expertise. Its too burnt, too sloppy, too salty, not cooked enough, its what we had yesterday and so on and so on.

The last straw came this evening when I had to cook rice and only during the cooking process did it become clear that the pan had not been rinsed out properly due to sloppy washing up, and so we had to eat washing up flavoured rice for tea.

My partner is now making gagging gestures and pulling faces

What would you do?How do you deal with a partner who constantly criticises your cooking?
    LOL just LOL!

Is he foaming at the mouth yet??

I think use two should get take aways every night, use paper plates and get taxis everywhere.

Sorted. How do you deal with a partner who constantly criticises your cooking?
    Let him starve, sod him.
Go on strike and tell him to cook the meals himself or the both of you and he has to do the cleaning up!
    Arsenic!

No seriously, stop cooking for him and only cook for yourself.
It's quite simple: Get him/her to make their own food in future.
tell him to make his own or get takeaway
I'd cook for myself and tell him to feed himself if things aren't up to his standard. And if the washing up isn't satisfactory for him to do it himself. Also he should show more respect, he sounds abusive almost. Are you happy with him with everything else?

My bf did the same until I did the above then he shut up.
Put your ear plugs in and sit down with a good book.
OOOHHH !!! been there done that tell him ';eat it or wear it'; and yes it ended in his lap
Go on strike for a while.
Swop chores for the week and ask him to cook for you and you do the washing up. See if he can do any better ;)
make him something that gives him real belly ache and give him something to complain about.

you could always only give him beans on toast etc, and make yourself really nice meals. and when he asks where his is, tell him you didn't think he'd like it so you didn't make him any.
I do all of the cooking, Me thinks you ought to take the left over rice and pour it liberally on to the genitalia area..
Guess who is the new cook in the house until further notice.

    Outrider

Just like on the trail when you got to ride the chuckwagon and cook for all the hands.
Get him off his fat Ar$3 and tell him to do it himself. Or let him starve.
Simple, cook for yourself and if they dont like it then tough luck. They can just find somthing on their own.

Try making them cook and then pull the same stunt and start complaining about anything.
I would pull a trick on him...

set up video recorder and then order his favorite meal from take out and throw away all the bags after you've picked it up and set it out like you made it.

    Then

stop and listen for his reaction..

just to see if he criticizes you..

    that way you will know..

i would switch to all frozen made dinners or salads or tacos...then if he didnt like it set out the stuff and he can make it and clean up..

i dont cater to fussy hubby's

He is lucky you fix his meals anyway some women will not cook at all at least you try.

Well, it may be better if you will try to go out for dinner in one of the best restaurants in your place with your partner. Just keep in your mind that you will just gonna observe his/her reaction about the food you'll eat. If he do the same thing, that means, there's something wrong with his tongue.
Trade chores. Allow him the privilege of cooking the food, and you will do the washing up. Problem solved.

If you really want to do the cooking, it does sound like perhaps your cooking actually IS inedible....take lessons. OMG, ';washing up flavoured rice'; really is not acceptable, I certainly could not assign any blame for complaining about that.
Don't cook for him...turn the tables and just see how he performs
Tell them if they don't like the way you cook - then they can do all the cooking.
Let him do everything . Then sit back looking smug and enjoy . Revenge is a dish best eaten cold
only some one who is brain dead would complain about cooking to the person who cooks,,,,, think about it for a sec , would you do it?
Only a control freak would do this..

If he loves you he wouldn't do it.

There must be other issues, as they say.

Tell him to go back to his mother %26amp; eat her food.
I'd have him prepare the meals then if he thinks that he can do it better! I'd also push the idea of going out to eat more often. I would be ticked if someone were making gagging gestures at me....that person would be out the door with my foot, well you get the drift.
put laxatives in the next thing you make for him,,give him something to really complain about :)
Just tell him to make his own and if he's not happy with that then tell him to starve, the ungrateful get.
    You mean ex-partner.
Tell him to go to his Mums if he wants to eat.
Rat poison comes to mind. Add liberally to each meal.
What I'd do is this: make him a nice meat pie, but add a lot of chopped cat food to it. Let the sod scoff it, then make him a nice pudding, laced with Ex-Lax........

    Cooking hotdogs in a crockpot?

We're having a party and I'm planning on cooking the hotdogs in the crockpot so they can always be warm for whenever someone wants to eat (there's other food of course, but thought the kids would appreciate this the most). I would assume I should put water in to cook them just as I would on the stove. Anyone have a suggestion of how long the hotdogs should be ';stewing'; in the crockpot to make sure they're warmed all the way through?Cooking hotdogs in a crockpot?
It's practically impossible to overcook hot dogs in a crock pot.Put them on low two hours before serving begins and they should be ready and good to go.I also like to do mine in sour kraut or add a can of beer for flavor.Don't worry about the alcohol,it will dissipate during cooking. As for another answerer suggesting to bring them to a boil first,if your crock pot does this, get rid of it,it should not get that hot.The whole idea of a crock pot is slow and low!Cooking hotdogs in a crockpot?
I have never done it this way before but it sounds like a good idea. Maybe you should put the water in the pot first and let it heat up. Then heat your dogs in the microwave before putting them in the crock pot. I like this idea. they should stay warm for the whole party. Set it on low or for the longest time you can.
turn it on high - let it come to a boil- pop in the dogs and turn it back to low after it comes to a boil again and put the lid on. if they are frozen 15 minutes- refrigerated- 5 minutes. Just keep adding hot water as the water evaporates.
i would set them up at least an hour before serving put on low are you going to put any sauerkraut in with them?

    Prep Time: 15 minutes

    Cook Time: 1 minute

    Total Time: 16 minutes

    Ingredients:* SERVES 3-4

    * 2 medium to large ripe mangoes

    * 1 packet gelatin

    * 1/2 cup hot water

    * 1/3 cup white sugar

    * 1 cup good-quality coconut milk (*see below for substitutions)

    1. Make sure your mangoes are ripe - the fruit should be bright orange or yellow and fairly soft. Scoop out the fruit, including around the stone. Place the fruit in a food processor or blender and blitz to create a smooth mango puree. Leave the mango in the processor/blender.

    2. In a saucepan, heat up the water until it reaches a rolling bowl. Remove from heat. While stirring the water with a whisk or fork, sprinkle the gelatin over the surface of the water and stir briskly in order not to have any lumps.

    3. Add the sugar to the hot water/gelatin mixture and stir to dissolve.

    4. Add this mixture to the mango in the food processor/blender. Also add the coconut milk. Blitz briefly until ingredients are combined.

    5. Pour into dessert bowls or cups and place in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (or up to 24 if making ahead of company coming). Serve cold on its own, or with some fresh fruit, and ENJOY!

For Coconut Milk Substitutions: Instead of coconut milk, you can also use 1 cup evaporated milk (regular milk will work too). For a richer pudding, use 1 cup whipping cream, OR 1/2 cup whipping cream and 1/2 cup milk.

How do I adjust the cooking temperatures for recipies between gas and electric ovens.?

I have always cooked with a gas oven and have recently moved into a new home with an electric oven. All the meals I have cooked to date have burnt or cooked unevenly. If a recipie states the cooking temp for a gas oven, how do I adjust it to cook in an electric oven???How do I adjust the cooking temperatures for recipies between gas and electric ovens.?
There is no adjustment necessary for gas vs electric ovens. If your electric oven is a convection oven, that will make a difference. They cook faster.

Ovens can be very inaccurate. If you adjusted to one that was low, then moving to one that is accurate could throw you off. Alternatively, your new one could be running high.

Get an oven thermometer at a cooking store. See if your current oven is accurate. If it's running too hot, just turn down the dial. If it is true to the setting, you'll need to relearn your cooking techniques. They were probably altered by your last oven running below temperature.

Don't worry. It's pretty easy to adjust after a little bit of experience with the new equipment. How do I adjust the cooking temperatures for recipies between gas and electric ovens.?
the tempuratues should be the same. Perhaps you need to get someone out to calabrate the tempuratues on your oven.

As for cooking unevenly, 1/2 way through cooking, turn the tray around so both sides have equal time in the hot spots %26amp; cold spots.
It's not a problem of gas or electric, but rather just different stoves.

You should put a thermometer in your oven to see if it is at the right temp. It will just take some time to get used to the new oven.

Quick and easy recipes for cooking a breast of veal?

I've had some great luck requesting recipes here so I decided to try cooking something a little different for dinner tonight. I purchased a breast of veal which weighs roughly 4 1/2lbs. I have never in my life cooked veal before and truly have no clue how to prepare it. Any suggestions are mot welcome!Quick and easy recipes for cooking a breast of veal?
I substitute breast of veal for chicken in a jerk chicken recipe by cutting the uncooked veal into strips.Veal is wonderfully fatty so it cooks great on the grill and this recipe is quick and delicious.

    Breast of Veal

    1 ts Thyme leaves

    1 ts Salt

    1/2 ts Ground ginger

    1/2 ts Allspice

    1 sm Star anise pod

    1 Smoked habanero chile

    1 tb Lime juice

    Non Stick cooking spray

    Lime wedges

    RED BEANS W/RICE

Grill about 5 min (until juices run clear). Turn after 2 min

Grill pineapple for 5 minutes( put on grill after turning veal). Serve with Pineapple slices and lime wedges .

Red Beans W/ Rice: Add rice to boiling water, reduce heat; cover and simmer until rice is tender and water is absorbed (20 min). Remove from heat and stir in beans and cilantro.

Let rest and cover until ready to serve.Quick and easy recipes for cooking a breast of veal?
First of all, there is no quick recipe for a breast of veal. If you cook it quick it will be tough. You must slow cook it. As for easy, each of us has his own definition of what is easy or difficult.

You need a pot with a tight fitting lid, about three cups mirepoix, (carrot, onion, celery) two cups stock, a cup of red wine. what ever seasonings you like, I recommend garlic, thyme, oregano, sage, bay leaf, You don't have veal stock, so use canned beef broth, or if you must, chicken broth.

Salt and pepper the veal, brown on both sides it in some oil, remove it and toss in the mirepoix, sweat it in the fat from the meat, and add the wine, boil until the wine is reduced by half, and add the stock. Return the veal to the pot, put the lid on it and pop it into a 275Foven for about two hours. Remove the meat, puree the liquid and veggies and strain it, this is your sauce.

Veal tastes like veal. It's done when it is tender enough to cut with a fork.

Would cooking instruction video beat cookbooks in teaching me how to cook?

I have literally dozens of cookbooks that I have bought over the years. I recently came up with the idea of cooking instruction videos and bought a few. Now I am not only seeing but hearing the cooking and instructions. Would this help me better than the cookbooks?Would cooking instruction video beat cookbooks in teaching me how to cook?
If you have cable and the Food Network, and others, you can learn techniques and styles by watching those. Cookbooks are for recipes, videos %26amp; TV are for technique. You need both.Would cooking instruction video beat cookbooks in teaching me how to cook?
i would say so, you will learn faster instead of being reading little by little, but it all depends on your efforts.
I would use both. Use whatever works best for you. People learn new things in different ways.

Cooking is like playing an instrument: If you want to get good, then practice as much as possible.
    No......
I agree with Tom K. Use every learning resource you can: books, videos, DVDs, TV, classes. The more you're exposed to materials, techniques, tools, and recipes, the larger your repertoire will become -- and the more you (and your guests) will enjoy your cooking.
I'm not much of a cook, but here's my two cents:

I think it's hard to just watch a video for a better understanding of cooking, HOWEVER, I'm kind of obsessed with this video blog from Susan Westmoreland (she's the head food lady at Good Housekeeping). She gives a new video cooking tip every day and usually they're super, super easy. I wouldn't say that they would replace how-to cookbooks, but they're always coupled with a recipe and help make cooking it easier. In the end, I think a combo of video and book works best.

    If you're interested: http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/food/dinner/
Videos and cookbooks both have their place. One will never be better than the other. Both are equally useful.

But quit spending your money on videos, and just watch (and maybe tape or Tivo) Food Network.

I've always loved to cook , but my skills have improved considerably from watching Food Network regularly over the past few years.

    Their website rocks too!

But don't forget cookbooks! Video will never be able to fill the gap in your cooking arsenal that cookbooks occupy.
It will. I cook from cookbooks but find that watching the video step by step allows me to see for myself THE CORRECT WAY TO CARRY OUT THE PROCEDURE/TECHNIQUE.

From the cookbook, i just do what I understand from reading it. From a clear video I can watch for myself the technique.

If you are a kinesthetic learner, it DEFINITELY

    WILL.

Here is a good video site for you.

  • Has anyone ever taken a cooking course?

I wish to take a culinary course and I have even found some schools which specialize in it that may help me. Is there anyone out there who's taken a course in cooking before? What should I expect? By the way, I already know how to cook but I am interested in taking these courses to learn how to do a nice food presentation.Has anyone ever taken a cooking course?
I've taking some classes. When I was studying to be a chef - never worked out, because I couldn't afford to continue school... oh well.

They start you out with the basics, how to properly hold a knife, what knife is used for what, what the different cuts are, and how to make them.

All stuff you'll find useful later on.

When I took the classes, we didn't get into presentation till the 2nd or 3rd level. The 1st levels were designed so that we got an understanding on how to prepare the food, so that we knew how to cook a steak to Medium, without having to cut into it to check the 'doneness', and then plate it up and have the juices run all over the plate - that doesn't make for a nice plate.

Once we mastered the 'basics' then we got into the 'art' of plating.Has anyone ever taken a cooking course?
I have taken a couple and they were really basic, like made for people who could burn water. Check with the cooking classes that you go to that you are actually able to be involved in the cooking, in some of them you only get to watch the teacher cook (BORING). Also, some of them have you work in groups which means that you spend a lot of time waiting for some guy to finish peeling a potato.

I would recommend doing a cooking class for a particular type of cuisine (ie. Thai, French pastry etc) because these seem to actually teach you new styles and recipes.

In terms of presentation, they usually give you some presentation tips depending on the type of cooking that you do. Vietnamese was great for this, we learned how to make carrot flowers and all sorts of garnishes with cucumber and tomatoes.
it really depends on the school. some will let you take classes but they are the degree classes and you are under the ';prerequisite'; dilemma. I think what you are looking for are called Continuing Education classes. At the CIA there were classes for professionals and for people that just wanting to take one class,or a few classes . As I said it just depends on the school and what they offer. and i have to agree watching someone else cook is boring and can also be done for free at home watching the Food Network.
I love to cook, so I have taken a number of classes. One thing that I found out was, only take the classes that are hands on. Do not do the demo's. You can see all the demo's on Food network, but the hands on are great. Check your local kitchen stores like Rolling Pin, or supermarkets like Publics, and I understand that William Sonoma is now offering them.

How can I get a cooking oil stain out of clothes?

The cooking oil was used to cook fish! I have soaked the item overnight, but it didn't remove the stain - and it still smells of fish. How can I get a cooking oil stain out of clothes?
This has worked for me - Super Clean. It is an industrial de-greaser (Walmart sells it %26amp; auto parts stores). Pour some on the spot, allow to stand for a minute and then wash. How can I get a cooking oil stain out of clothes?
    dawn dish soap
Dry cleaners use solvents not water. the stain WILL come out.
Dawn dish detergent will work on grease stains. I usually treat the stain with Dawn, rubbing it in, and then rinse it out. You may need to repeat this process more than once until the stain is removed. It seems to be safe for fabrics and doesn't leave an ';industrial'; smell behind (like Lestoil or Pine Sol might). Also, if you have allergies to various laundry and cleaning products, the Dawn dish soap you use will not cause rashes when used on your clothes.
might have to buy new ones
Take it to a dry cleaner. If that doesnt work i dont think it will come out. Good luck! :)
Put Grease Relief on the stain, let it soak for a while, then wash in hottest water the fabric can handle
    Drycleaning. Works GREAT!
try dawn...for an hour let in sit with dawn then rinse

it depends if it is an old or new stain..hope this helps...
Use a clear clarifing shampoo. Make sure it is clear, put it on the stain and wash as usual.

You can also try a great product from Market America called SOS, it takes out just about everything. Go to www.shopatladydi.com and order some it's great.
rub the soap in on spot
    Dawn dish detergent
Usually best if you can treat right away, try baking soda, it will typically leach the oil out of the material fibers, however, it also depends on the material type %26amp; the length of time it has set in.

Apply the baking soda with a little water to form a thick past %26amp; let it stand for about an hour, then rub the baking soda in.

You can also try oxy-clean in the wash or ammonia in the wash water. (ammonia usually works well with motor oils too.)

    Good Luck!
here is a less involved way. Put ur clothes on the ironing board or flat surface (that wont be burnt mu an iron). Sprinkle some flour on the oil spot and then put another piece of clothing (cotton is best) over the spot and iron it on low. The flour will absorb the oil. It really works! Be careful not to burn ur clothes.
If it's a synthetic material an oxygen bleach such as Oxyclean will remove the organic materials (incl. smell) without damaging the fabric. Follow the directions on the packaging.
Try Clorox StainOut. It's bleach free and I use it all the time. I work in a kitchen and next to Greased Lightning it is the best thing I have found.
Dawn dishwashing soap, shampoo, or baby powder.
    1. Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the washer as you are washing a load of soiled clothes.

    2. Pour gas lighter (Not butane!!!) on the spot and wash with Sunlight yellow soap or liquid dish soap. Rince with warm water. Repeat if needed, then wash as usual. Works even on silk!

    3. use WD-40. Spray a little on the stain. Let sit for 10 minutes. Launder as usual. Use this method only for synthetic fabrics - not silk!
rub bicarbonated soda on it leave for 30 minutes then wash on 60 degrees

How can I make my cooking island range safe with children in the home?

I just bought a house with the cooking range in the island in the middle of the kitchen. How can I make this safe with little children in the house. To keep the hot cooking utensils from sliding off or from being pulled off by a four year old.How can I make my cooking island range safe with children in the home?
there are safety gaurds that you can put up around the edges of the stove and it will keep little hands from reaching it and stuff from sliding off. you can get these at wal-mart, babies are us and home depot. good luck. How can I make my cooking island range safe with children in the home?
Good question, because I have an island also. My suggestion is of course always monitor it as closely as possible. I would also hold the child up and show them a pot of boiling water or whatever you have cooking and not get too close, but close enough they can feel the heat and explain the dangers around touching or pulling on a pot.

I have always tried to cook on the eye that is the hardest for my little girl to reach. You can also put barriers around the island to make it harder for the child to get close to. Something that they cannot climb up on and would be difficult for them to move away.

But, in the end I like to let my little girl get up in a chair (with me CLOSELY monitoring her) and let her ';help'; me cook. She thinks it is grand and the years go by way to fast for me not to spend that time with her. Good luck.

How would you like your cooking class to be?

I want to organize an intensive Italian Cooking Class. I want to know from you what you would like to learn, how you would like it to be.

I was thinking about meeting twice a week for three weeks, for two hours ( 7-9pm) time to eat what we prepared included.

is this too much time, or too little?

This class would also explore psychological features of eating and would link the cooking experience with cultural facts ( hystory of recipes, cities and landscapes in Italy when they are made...)

do you think you would be interested?

please send me any suggestions you have , or simply your dreams!

thank you!How would you like your cooking class to be?
I think all of that sounds like a fantastic idea. Maybe on your part you could get a local Italian specialty store to help with set up costs or supplying food and in turn you could take the people to that shop to show them the goods and perhaps include a small gift voucher for them to spend there. So many people get the basics in Italian wrong like how to cook pasta well and go overboard making sauces when they are in fact best kept simple. Tiramisu would be good to learn and a good hearty lasagna or eggplant parmigiana. I like people teaching me to talk about their mistakes in the past as they are often amusing and what NOT to do can be as important as what to do.How would you like your cooking class to be?
I'd like my cooking class in my home and about normal dishes cooked light. I'd like you to take me to the supermarket and show me how to shop for the best ingredients and show me how to cook it in my own home with my own stuff. The cultural and psychological features would be great. Maybe you could teach it as we cook.
i would like it to be half doing it yourself and half group work. maybe some experiments with different foods.
Your class should include some of the basic cooking tips such as how to sear food and deglaze a pan for the best flavor. Many people don't know the basics. It should mostly include readily available ingredients and maybe one or two new things for some adventure.

If you have done enough cooking %26amp; baking to know you love standing in hot kitchen all day turning out these goodies, you are probably making a decent career choice, and you probably have enough background to succeed in culinary school. Be prepared to learn a lot of new tricks in the kitchen! And to learn how to cook in vast quantities and under tight deadlines.
